Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a celebration of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country (www.dol.gov). I hope you all are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend! It is always nice to have a three day weekend to celebrate the end of summer and to allow us to rest and recoup for all the work to come this fall! In class, we are finishing our first major writing unit, Personal Narratives; in your spare time, you've been reading your books for your first independent book review (right???); and this week, we are going to dive into our first literature unit: Greek Tragedies!! Oh, the excitement that is to come! But for now, as we are enjoying the holiday, it got me to thinking. What is YOUR favorite holiday of the year? Does your family have any traditions you particularly enjoy (or do NOT enjoy)? Remember, this is a journal entry. Don't just answer as quickly as possible; DESCRIBE what is your favorite holiday and WHY! Then, enjoy the rest of your weekend--or the rest of this short school week, however the case may be. :)
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love to be outside in the snow!! I love the family dinners and the family games. I love it when we sit around the fire and drink hot chocolate. The presents are my favorite part!! :) We always have a huge dinner. Halloween is also a favorite! I love the candy and the haunted houses. The corn mazes and all the fun things to do at that time of the year.

my favorite holiday is christmas because we have a long break. and we get to relax and enjoy family.sometimes we get to go to chicago to visit our family and we have a blast. we usually have a big game of spades and that is great. then we go outside and usually hit everyone with snowballs and play hide and seek but it is really cold outside then we go back inside and make hot chocalate and thats how we spend our holiday sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday is Christmas because i get to see family,have snowball fights,and build snowmans.My little brother likes making ramps and paths to sled across,hes good at making the paths. But when we have snowball fights i win all of those most of the time,its all ways fun till someone gets hurts.And thats like every year,but all snowball fights cant be perfect. This year me and my family are going on a cruise,its going to be a lot of fun! :)..I cant wait because this is going to be my first cruise.

I like to see what presents i got and what is in then and who i got the from.i also ike the snow " if it snow " because we get to sled/get pulled from a four weeler. i also love snow ball fights.

I also like when it snows because I like riding fourwheelers in the snow and sledding behind the fourwheelers. One of the things my family always does is we go to my grandmas house. She always cooks dinner and we open presents. We always do this on Christmas eve and we have my cousins birthday party because his birthday is on Christmas eve.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday is Hollow's Eve. (Halloween as you all know it!) It's one of the few times of the year (Wait, it's the ONLY time of the year) where we can dress up in costumes and go out in public. Plus, we get candy to boot!!!

It's hard to choose just one favorite holiday being that most of them get you out of school, but, if I were to choose it would be Thanksgiving. I'm one of those types that LOVES to be with family. It's twenty times better when the family brings food, right?! For thanksgiving we always have the get together at either my house or at my aunts and I am always the designated deviled egg bringer. Being with all my family together is always fun because of how loud and easy going we are. Can't wait for November!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday is Christmas, because I get to take my annual vacation to the west coast with my family! We used to live there and we still have a lot of people that we miss. So we're sure to visit often. I'm so excited for this upcoming Christmas, too! It gives me a chance to take a break from school and enjoy all of the good times I've had (and will have) with the people I know. It also allows me to be thankful for all that I have. None of us should take Christmas break for granted, either. Although the break does make some of us forget what Christmas is all about, we should try our best to give our thanks to God about all of the things he has provided for us. Remember, Christmas begins with "Christ"!

This year my family and i are going to do what we do every year, and we will even go to my church to be apart of the christmas coffeehouse..

My favorite holiday is probably Christmas because we're celebrating Jesus' Birthday!!! Me and my family listen to Christmas songs, drink hot chocolate, and do donuts in the snow and on the ice!!:D My daddy ties the sled or the canoe up to our Polaris Ranger or the fourwheeler and drags us all around our field! So much fun!! I think i might try to ski this year!

My favorite holiday would have to be New Years Day because its the beginning of a new year and its like you get to start over and look forward to the mistakes or great things that get to happen in that next year. I also like this holiday because its my birthday too. :) Sometimes, I do not enjoy having my birthday on this holiday for many reason that are to long to explain. My entire family really loves Christmas because its the only time of year we all can actually get together and enjoy being together, giving gifts, laughing and having a great time but, im still sticking with New Years as my favorite holiday!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday would have to be the 4th of July because we celebrate during summer, my favorite season! Theres always a bunch of snacks and food on the 4th and you usually stay up late. I celebrate the 4th of July with my friend. We ride four wheelers, play in the water, and light off fireworks. Its always a blast!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holdiday would be either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Thos are my top to because for one reason my whole family comes to my house so I get to see everyone. Another reason is why would love Thanksgiving and all that food. My grandma gets up really early Thanksgiving day and as they day goes on you can smell more and more foods. By the time its early afternoon we eat bec we havent eaten breakfast so that way we are really hungry for the early dinner. Lastly Christmas is my ohter favorite holdiay is bec you get to open presents or in my case just get alot of cash that i can go buy what I want with it. All in all id say Thanksgiving and Chritmas are my favorite holidays for those reasons.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday is gonna have to be Christmas because the whole family is there and everyone is always happy and cheerful.We always watch a family movie and eat dinner,which is always a huge dinner lol, then we all sit around and just talk to each other. We always open presents in the early morning (like 5 o'clock early lol). Christmas is my favorite holiday because i get to hang out with family and friends and we all have a blast!!

well....My favorite holliday i think is thanks giving. The tradition in our family is to prepare our food all day and then once its done we Have a humongous prayer. THEN WE EAT! I don't apreciate how full i get though. I get really full, but I love my family and my families traditons and jeffery.

My favorite holiday would definitely be Christmas. I just love the joyous felling in the air. I also love the presents, but mostly I love being with my family. We always get up early in the morning, sit in the livig room, and watch eachother open our presents. I also love it because it's in the middle of winter, my favorite season. And all my favorite songs and movies are christmas movies so i look weird watching The Grinch in the middle of the summer. So that's why i love Christmas.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite holiday is either fourth of July or valentines day. I like fourth of July because we buy a ton of fireworks and blow them off from like nine to eleven at night, being one of the last people in my neighbourhood blowing them off. Valentines day, because it's all lovey dovey and I get chocolate all the time from them. Traditions we have, on Christmas we make a big dinner, and open a present on Christmas eve. On the fourth of July we cook some type of meat usually barbecue ribs. On valentines day, my parents leave out some stuffed animals, candy, and a note saying they love me when I get up that morning. But, valentines day is my least because I lost my cat Lylah two years ago on valentines day... Well that's it.

ReplyDeleteI would have to say my favorite holiday is Easter! We go to church, then, my mom and i will spend the afternoon in the kitchen cooking for the family. It's wonderful when everything is done and the entire family is sitting around the table just talking. We usually end the night out on the deck looking at the stars or by the fire roasting marshmallows.
I'd have to say that my favorite Holiday is Christmas! Not like it's everyone's favorite. I love getting presents, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, and I really love getting to spend a lot of time with my family! I got up to Illinois every Christmas and spend it at my Grandma's house. All my cousins, aunts and uncles, even my second cousins come to celebrate! We sing around the piano, go outside and run around, and drink Sparkling Cider! I love my family so much. I hope I can go to Illinois every Christmas!

My favorite holiday is Christmas! This is my favorite holiday because everyone's in a cheerfull mood all the time. And all the fun games that we do, like sledding and snowball fighting!! Plus how everyone's going to be excited for Christmas Break. Even the presents are fun to get too. (that's my favorite part about my favorite holiday) Then there's candy!! I love candy so much!! such a good treat for the bitter cold and sitting by the warm fire (but I dont have a fireplace so heaters are good too) But its always a fun time of the year when it comes to Christmas!

On new years we rent some condows & get my moms side of t family over & have a littel party. One time when i was 6 it was me, my dad & my mom & tat day i got to drink champagne. It tasted dicusting.

ReplyDeleteMy favorit holiday is christmas, and just not for the presents. The night before my sister and i are up really late makeing everybodys favorite sweets. Then we go to bed and after school we a still doing the same thing. Then everybody gets to our house. There we help my little sister make some sweets ( chocolate covered pretzels). After we get done with cooking we enjoy everyones company.
my favorite holiday is 4th of july, because of all the fireworks!! i love the noise and colors of them, other reasons i love the 4th is because i get to see all of my family, we usally go out on my grandpas boat and wach a firework show

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Holiday is easily Christmas, each year it reminds me of happier times in the past. Everything about Christmas just brings joy to my life whenever that time of the year rolls around. It makes me sad though as well because it reminds me of the thing I miss most about living in the north, snow. I miss being able to sled down one of the massive hills in 3 feet of snow or exploring through the forest, setting up little camps as I go along. Snow isn't the only thing I love about Christmas though. I love the giving of presents, the opportunity for everyone in the family to come together, and eggnog. Sure, things may not seem as good as they use to be but the time around Christmas is as close to it as I'll ever get. You may wonder why I put myself through remembering how times were much better for me in the past than they are now, but as the wise philosopher, George Santayana, once said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it".
My favorite holiday over all would have to be Fourth of July. For the Fourth I like to go to the shows and cook out. This summer I went to the C of O fireworks show. My family and I normally get a lot of fireworks and shoot them off. But we almost always have a ton of bottle rockets left over. And once we get done with our own fireworks show I enjoy watching all the others over the hills of Branson.

My favorite holiday would be Christmas. I love this holiday cause of all the presents that I get. Since I have such a big family i get triple the stuff. My family just started a new tradition. We go back home and visit for the holidays. We didnt see them alot because we are 5 hours away and we dont really have the time to go see them.

Where i'm from we usually have snow on the ground when it's christmas but since we moved down here, you guys don't have much snow on christmas day. I liked to play in the snow all the time with my friends and sisters. It a family tredition and i love spending time with my family!

I'm a vegetarian and killing turkeys to eat is against my morals!! But you know,it's whatever. If you like eating meat then that's fine. I'll do me and you do you. We also have tons of birthdays in November, on the 15th is my grandma and grandpa's birthdays, on the 20th is mine, and on the 25th is my nephews. So we get together and not only celebrate Thanksgiving, but all of our birthdays as well. It's always a lot of fun because we eat so much Thanksgiving stuff, along with cake and icecream!.

My favorite holiday is fourth of july becuase, its close to my birthday and i like fireworks. I love how you can wear shorts and flip flops and play with fireworks all day. You can always go to parties and blow stuff up, go to the lake, tubing, and cook out with family. Thats why i love fourth of july.

I love how everybody is together and how everybody is in great moods, it just makes it even better. Another reason why I love Christmas is because it's beautiful outside, not that it's cold but how everything is white and how the snow sparkles :) And I love how at night the sky is so beautiful and you can see all the stars :) it's just a great time off the year :)

Fall/winter is my favorite time of year. The combination of the awesome cold weather and all the great holidays is just unbeatable. I guess, in a sense, my favorite holiday is actually a favorite holidays. Hope that's acceptable.

My favorite holliday would have to be Christmas of course. not only do i get gifts, lots of money, and my birthday is five days before, but i get a big dinner to so its like a mix between everyone having a birthday and thanksgiving. And i get to see a lot of my family and get caught up on every thing their up to and have good times. :)

We hangout all day on the lake and go jetskiing. then we come back to the lakehouse and we all eat dinner together. When the fireworks start to go off, All of us load up on the boat and go watch them.

My favorite holiday would have to be Easter. Each year us kids get up and we go to the living room and guess what? The Easter bunny came! We get jelly beans and chocolate bunnies and ties and all sorts of molarchy (whatever that means). Then we go to church and then come home and spend quality time together that we don't normally get to because of our busy lives. After that, we take naps (well, most of us) and then we get up and have a big dinner. Now I know what your thinking. That sounds just like Christmas! Well I don't know how to put my finger on it, but there's something different about it. A different... Feeling, If you catch my drift. Oh, and we have an Easter Egg hunt and I totally dominate my sisters. But at the end we have to split them up. So yeah. That's my favorite freaking holiday! yeah.... see ya

Christmas is my favorite holiday because it brings my family closer, we always bake alot of cookies, ginger bread men, and we also build ginger bread houses and we each pick one side of the house and we get to decorate it with anything we want and however we want. P.S my side is always the best haha.
ReplyDeletemy family kinda have a tradition when it comes to christmas, every christmas eve we get out a plate and cup for santa clause (its always the same plate and cup from when i was little) and we each pick a cookie to put on the plate( myne is always my favorite kind of cookie.. chocolate chip) and we fill up the cup with some milk or apple cyder and we put it by our fire place. my parents on christmas eve will buy us all new pajamas and we get to open them on christmas eve and we sleep in them and spend christmas in them.
christmas is my favorite holiday not because i get presents or new pajamas. but because its a holiday of sharing, and giving back to eachother and the comunity.
