“We know what we are, but know now what we may be.” William Shakespeare As we read this week, Oedipus has just discovered the shocking truth about his life. On a very different scale (thank goodness), have you ever discovered something surprising about yourself? Maybe a talent or a skill you didn't know you had until you tried something new? Maybe a place you didn't want to go until you went and found, to your surprise, you liked it?! Or even something that you were anxious to try, only to discover it was not for you after all!! What about something as simple as getting to know someone you thought you already knew and found they weren't the way they seemed at all? Sometimes you find out whom you ARE by finding out whom you are NOT, like trying on new experiences to see if they will be a good fit for you? Trying something new can be illuminating; so for this week, tell me the story of a time you discovered something surprising about yourself (one sentence is not going be enough), and remember what you've learned when the next new opportunity presents itself! :)
I thought driving was the hardest thing in the world the first time I went behind the wheel! Granted it was my first time driving, and I was also 12 at the time, I didn't think I could do it. But I did :) Now I can't wait to get my license and start zoomin' along. :)

I didn't know i had the talent of making graphics, until i tryed it out for the first time a year ago. One of my friends told me about photoshop and showed me the stuff you could do with it. I was very interested when i saw this, seens then i've made some graphics that are worth a couple hundred dollars. One of my highest payed graphics was a desktop background and it went for three hundred on my website.

Something suprising i found out about myself was in &th grade when i first tried long jump in track. I was just jumping anbd coach saw how good i was and atarted puttting me in the event at track meets. I won 1st every meet and was a c.o.c champ in Webb City. I went like that through 8th grade until i got to highschool where i played baseball instead of track.

ReplyDeleteWell sense halloween is coming up ill talk about that, when i was little i was scared of those haunted houses and i wouldnt get close to a zombie or ghost or anything related to halloween. But one halloween my brother betted me 2 bucks (thats alot when you are little) that i wouldnt go threw the whole haunted house without chickening out. So i took up the challenge and im glad i did cause the HAUNTED HOUSES ARE THE BOMB-DIGITY!!!! I am in love with them, they are amazing. So every year around this time i go to almost every haunted house attraction in missouri, kansas, and arkansas. So thats something i thought i would never like but i end up liking it alot!
Aquaman,
ReplyDeletewhen i was 9 we lived in a house that was too small for our family. my mom was about to have another kid so we decided to move to a knew house. i really didnt want to move. i asked them over and over again that we couldnt move. we now live in a house that is a lot bigger and that has a lot of land and wildlife. i love our new home and am glad we moved
One thing i had done and didnt think i would like was seeing the movie the smurfs the other day with my girlfriend. I thought it would be a boring kids moving. but it was actually a really good funny movie. And it didnt just have cartoon peope in it like i thought the smurfs went to a big city. They would say smurf instead of saying bad words it was funny and at the end the couple said that they smurfed each other so i looked over at my girlfriend and said i smurf you and gave her a big kiss. But thats something I did that i thought i wouldnt like but ended up enjoying it. :)

7th grade was just coming to an end at my old Jr. High and I was excited for a long lazy summer, at least I thought I was. I had a friend who wanted to be a cheerleader so bad and didn't want to try out for 8th grade cheer unless I tried with her. I hated the idea of cheer leading and thought it was just the dumbest thing, but I tried out to make her feel better figuring there was no way I would make it... Well I did, and my friend didn't. She was devastated! But I stuck with it and had practices and camps all summer and by the time 8th grade came, I was pretty good. I started liking cheer more and more, having so much fun, and being a varsity cheerleader now, I can say it's an important part of my life and I love it and am very proud of what I do because I have a lot of fun doing it.
ReplyDeletei have discovered something about my self before. i like rock climbing. its very fun and very hard. i discovered it by my friends climbing bluffs and jumping off........ its a blast but the first jump always gets you but if you havent done it you should
ReplyDeleteI never thought that I could get over the fact that, it doesn't matter what people think. I used to be so insecure, and try to change anything about me that other people didn't like. Now, I know that people have their own opinions and I just take them in and let them go. I have always stood up for myself but now I feel more confident doing it. I, now, enjoy being ME. Also, I love it!
ReplyDeleteWell, Im amazing with graphics. Im actually in the middle of my own games, Its basically a full world virtual reality. and the graphics. Are almost as great as it gets our time. and well i did something with someone and i didnt think i would like it, and we both loved it and That person stayed the night ha. No names, and Can't really say what we did, or whom it was for that persons sake Ha.

Well there's really not anything that I've discovered like a talent or a skill or a place that I dint think I like but I really did. Something that I figure out was that there is actually a book that I enjoy reading which I never though would happen.

Well, about 5 years ago, I was taking gymnastics. It wasn't my favorite. The dance teacher that worked there asked me if I could try a tap class. It was halfway through the recital season so I had to catch on quick! Learning things I had never learned before! Everyone was shocked how fast I could learn things! My feet just naturally did all the steps! After that year I started to get serious, I wanted to do more classes! I love dance. It keeps me fit, and I have a lot of good friends! I can tell that I have grown a lot over the years. I hope I can continue to grow even more! (:
ReplyDeleteMy name of my book is House and its by frank peretti and ted deckerr. I like it because its intense, scary, and makes me want to keep reading to see shay going to happen.

I found out that i could sing and that i want to be in a show just like my dad! My dad plays bass guitar and sings in a show here in town! i sing in the shower all the time and im kinda good but shy about it!

I guess it was a reflex or something. ever since i've been hanging up side down by my knees. i freek a lot of people out wen i climb trees & fall backwords it is so funny.
ReplyDeleteblackwolf
I think is crazy how you can try something when your younger and hate it, then few years after like doing it! For me thats probably soccer! Used to hate it, now I think its do much fun! When I was younger I told myself I'd never like rap, hip hop, or pop..now thats pretty much ask I ever listen to! But I'm starting to like country again!:D

A year and a half ago I learned that I am skilled at constructing computers. I am able to identify every piece of hardware inside of my computer that makes it run. It took 6 months but I constructed my computer and still use it to this day. Learning about that is useful still to this day because I can not only fix computers easier but also build them with ease. Previously, it seemed very complex and complicated but now it is just like putting together a Lego set.
ReplyDeletei have really never done somthing new because i know what i can do and can't do because when i want to do somthing new i keep i keep practicing and practicing when i get it right.
ReplyDeletei found out throught out my years that i was not going to like football. that was not the case when i got older i absoultely love it now.this place called branson i thought i was going to hate it cuz of the people and the enviroment is way different, cuz i am from chicago and i really like this place called branson.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I learned about myself was that I hate high places. I found this out when I wnet to camp this last summer. They had a place where you could propel off the side of a cliff. I thoght it was going to be really easy I wanted to do it at first, but after I got to the top it was terrifying. We were only 30 feet up, but I couldn't go down the side. so I had to be escorted back down the long way. it sucked that I couldn't go down the orignal way whenever all my friends were doing all these tricks, but I still had a good time at camp, so it wasn't so bad.
ReplyDelete~Judah Josiah
Well one thing i said i would never do again is jumping off a 30 foot cliff in to the water but i did it again this summer.I jumped off it 2 times and this 10 year old did two backflips and landed on his belly, but he is ok.I dont like being high in the air so im suprised i jumped, but jumping off the cliff wasnt that bad.Its just when u walk all the way up to the top of the cliff and look down its scary.Well thats the time when i suprised myself.
ReplyDeletei "was" friends with this girl & we were really good friends, hung out this summer a lot. Then she started hanging out with the wrong kind of crowd, now i don't want to really be friends with her and get that lable. I thought I knew her, but now that she is changing I don't want to get put myself in that situation. Famous saying "you are what you hang around". ---katwomen!(:
ReplyDeleteSo I guess one-thing I would say that I have found out about myself is; when I was about 10 years old I was doing gymnastics and I figured out that I could do all sorts of flips. Like for example backhandsprings and backtucks...I was happy when I figured out that I could do that all by mself.. If was scary and funn..

Something ihave learned would have to be when i was younger just trying out different kinds of sports and things like that. I tried out every sport. I played flag football, t-ball, soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Obviously i found that one sport really stuck with me, that being basketball. I have played basketball and thats it since then. So that being said i would have to say athletics, in particular basketball would be a talent for me. When it comes to coordination i think i have it. But the one thing out of all of those i tried out and didnt like would be volleyball. Everything else i spent more than one practice playing. I didnt like volleyball because it hurt my arms. Probably something i could have gotten over but at my young age getting over it wasnt an option i just wasnt going to do it.
ReplyDeleteWell, for starters, I didn't wanna go over to las Vegas, Nevada because it didn't seem too exciting to me. But once we got there (we drove), it wasn't quite that bad. It was beautiful, and the town itself was humongous... Another thing I didn't really wanna do would be riding my bike. When I was younger, about eight years old, Iearned how to ride my bike for the very first time. I hated getting Hurt and falling, so I was dreading learning how to do it. But once I finally learned, it wasn't too bad at all. Until, of course, I tried riding up hill standing and pedaling... That was a different story until I was about nine..

I've tried doing many things in my life. I've tried instruments and couldnt play them at all. When i was in 7th grade, i doing choir and my teacher said i had a great voice and at the end of the year i won an award for best alto. So i found that singing was my best talent.
ReplyDelete-Nannerb
ReplyDeleteWhen I was six, I discovered that I could sing. My parents told me that I was pretty good at it, too. So I decided to join my elementary school's choir group. Then I became nervous of being the new kid in class, and was worried of what other kids would think of me. Later in the year, though, I learned to not care of what other people thought. I just had fun in the class, and the other kids accepted me for who I was.
Well, i started playing basketball in fourth grade. I didnt know anything about and just started playing. i turned out pretty good. The sad thing is that i quite, but that was something that did that i didnt know that i was pretty good at.
ReplyDeleteWell, when i was in fourth grade i started playing basketball. I didnt know anything about it and i played ever sense and i turned out pretty good. The sad thing is that i quite but at least i found one thing that im good at. (:
ReplyDeleteIn May of sixth grade my parents announced to my brothers and I that we were going to be moving to Branson at the end of the summer. I hated even thinking about it, I had an amazing life right where I was. My family all lived there, I was going to an advanced private school.. I had so much going for myself if I stayed there, but that wasn't going to happen. When I got to Branson I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I met a lot of new friends faster than I thought was possible, and my life was going well! I'm glad we ended up moving because I wouldn't have met any of the people I want in my life forever now. Even though my brother and my sister stayed behind and I miss them everyday, I'm glad my parents wouldn't let me go because I wouldn't have accomplished anything I have here.

ReplyDeleteOne thing i learned about myself is, that i like to keep myself busy. I have a very busy life right now with school, work, homework, and sports. It seem like when i have things going on i seem happy. When i have a day off, that i'm not doing anything, i'm kinda sad and feel like i must be doing something!
One thing that i did not know about me and intill i tryed is that am good at acting . one year in 7th grade i tryed it and i LOVED IT and every since i have bin doing it . I allways thought i was shay in front of people intill know . Iam so glade i tryed it becasue i can have a carrer in it .

ReplyDeleteSomething that I discovered about my self is that, I'm supposedly a **** (another word for penis). But I don't try to be, I think its how much I joke around to much. But I'm working on changing that about myself! I will just try to stop going so far on the jokes.
_Cheer47_Last year, i tried out for football cheerleading.. and i made freshman squad. The whole season I really enjoyed being on the squad. So this year, I tried out again for football cheer, but this time I made Varsity. I was so thrilled and I thought it would be much more fun than last year. Well, to be quite honest, so far, I hate it. Almost enough to quit. Good thing I'm not a quiter.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I found surprising about myself is that even though people can have a horrible past they can be the nicest, sweetest, happiest people in the world. We may not be able to explain why, but I seem to always be happy and think of things in positive ways and even you Mrs. Snow asked me why I became a happy person even though my past is not that bright and I still can give you the same answer I don't know and it surprises me that I can be happy and even if I see others sad I always try my best to cheer them up and I usually always succeed and that is what I find surprising about me.
ReplyDelete~Sophie12
one thing i found interesting about myself is that is that found out how to cook prety good. i was surprised when i was making meal when my parents were out of town on a weekend. now sence then i have been thinking about taking classes as get out of high school. well i know one thing i will not be going hungry once i get my own place. i will still eat raman even though it is easy and cheap to make it taste so awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little my dad used to always beat me in pool. My grandpa opened a pool hall when I was in 5th grade, and I started practicing a lot. I discovered that I liked pool a lot. Every day after school I would go to the pool hall and practice until it was time to go home. Now, I can beat my dad in pool, and other old men.
ReplyDeleteI found out that a long time ago that my mom had to dad. she had a step dad and then has her really dad. So all this time my grandpa is really my step grandpa if that makes sence. but i still called him papa. but i cant think of anything else that i found suprising.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when i was hanging out with a friend. She was talking to my parents and my friend. She had said that she had went skydiving. She had said that is was the best thing that she had ever exsperenced in her life
ReplyDeleteI was really nervous to start driving, and thought it was going to be really hard for me because I don't have the greatest hang-eye coordination. But after I got my permit, and started driving, I learned that it was actually really easy to get the hang of. And now I drive all the time, and am going to be getting my license pretty soon.

I found that I'm actually somewhat good at grapic design. I needed to make a birthday present for my friend, a comic actually, but I couldn't draw that well at the time. I found some pictures online, used Microsoft Paint to add speech bubbles and things like that, fixed the sizing, and tada! I mad a beautiful comic only using the web and Paint!!!

Well this is a though one. Oh, today I just barely figured out that it doesn't have to be cold to see my breath. I now know how to make my breath visible. When I first did it, I was surprised and now I do it a lot when im bored. Its really cool
ReplyDeletewe were stretching for wrist locks and take downs in tae-know-do. as im limbering up im bending my hands and wrist. right as i am a random instructor walks up to me. then say "your double jointed!" i honestly didnt think it was special but as i looked around no one else could do it. i could touch my hand to the bottom of my forearm. so now most wrist lock out really dont work on me cause i do not feel that much pain ill feel a little strain but no major pain.

Well, this one time at band camp...OH WAIT. I've never even been to band camp. So, I just figured out what I'm blogging about. I always use the phrase "one time at band camp" but I've never been to one before. That's what I just realized about myself.
ReplyDeleteThe end.
Over the the course of my life i've always loved to dance! no matter what im doing or where i am, like sitting on the bus listening to music, or walking home, or sitting at lunch, or hanging with friends! dancing is a big part of my life because when im upset or in a mood music and dancing makes me feel better..
ReplyDeletethe dance team tryouts are coming up and i plan on trying out but im really nervous about not making the team so im gonna go in to tryouts with some friends to make it better! i dont know a person that hates dancing and i dont think i ever will. so these tryouts are what im going to do to try something new.

I just recently found out that I really like to do makeup and I've been reading in to it. I've learned a lot of helpful tips and I think I may want to pursue a job in the future that has to deal with cosmetology. I find it interesting and fun to play around. I usually do my sisters makeup and sometimes my mom.
