An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King lived his life as a model of equality, justice, truth, and courage during one of the most critical periods for civil rights in our country's history. Through the example of his nonviolent principles, the world came to see things in a new--and brighter--light. Though civil rights have come a long way since MLK's day, there is a plethora of other issues which continue to threaten our rights, our freedoms, our health, and our peace of mind. For this week's journal entry, describe what you feel is the most important issue facing teens today? Is this a problem all over the country (or the world), or is it particular to one area? Do you know anyone who has been personally affected by this issue? (Be respectful of others' privacy! No naming names!) Explain why you feel this issue is the most important as well as how you, or other teens, should respond to it. Remember, Dr. King also said, "He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it." Something to think about.

ReplyDeleteI think the two most biggest issues facing teens today is drugs, and pregnancy. I do believe this is a probablem all over our country because drugs affect peoples state of mind, and when they do it the effect on our community and society changes the future from what should of been to what could of been. Also pregnancy is usually a good thing and a great accomplishment for all parents but when your a teen having a kid, it holds you back from doing something great! Something like that could scare a lot of teens, into doing stuff they wouldnt imagine doing before. to me these are our biggest issues.
important issues that teen are facing today are bullying it seems like its not a big deal but it actually is people who are more popular in school tend to pick on kids less popular so they can seem more popular and this is happening all over the world. -Flash
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest issue facing teens today is teen sex and drugs. It is so easy to fall into the wrong crowd and whe yuou do it's hard to get out. There are so many things that you have to turn down that it makes it hard to stay pure as a teen. For that reason i think is why our teens years are the most person because it shows in a way just what person your going to grow up to be..

I think that there are a lot of things facing the teens around us, and most of the problems vary. Mainly I think that teen pregnancy, drugs, and alcohol are the biggest things people our age struggle with. The other day I was on Facebook and there was a status that said "When you walk into Branson High School you see more pregnant women than in a hospital" The saddest thing about that status is that it's mainly true. Teens are worried about partying and having sex. People are ruining their lives at such a young age, not only with having children but becoming addicts to harmful drugs, getting in trouble with the law. It's really sad and dissapointing to see what has become of this generation.

I haven't been all over the world, so I couldn't tell you what the problems are, but here in America, I think bullying is one of the largest problems facing teens. That and obesity. I believe there are many reasons why someone is obese. I just wish things weren't so compicated sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLilawas
There is many problems that teens face today. A few of them would be alchol, drugs, pregancy, and bullying. It's happening world wide. Not just in one place. Bullying can really affect a teen while they grow. Makes them think less of themselves. Alchol and drugs are sometimes pressured onto teens now days.
ReplyDeleteBubbles96
the problem facing the teens is peer peer prusher and other kids. it is a world wide problem because everyone goes through this fase and very few people help them. people are just animals by nature but theirs no call for that. that is why people had segeration because white people thought the black people were week whe they weren't. the blacks were just peaceful people till we came a long.

The biggest issue facing teens now isn't race or drugs.... but rather our self. to many people discriminate because of weight hair acne or whatever. It was a step to take out racial discrimination but it is much harder to get a society to accept some one for who they are.... weather they are fat or have acne or are a book worm its much more difficult to make a society more open to everyone as they are. - Tricheco
ReplyDeletebullying has got to be the biggest issue facing teens today. i belive this because most teens do it. ounce one teen has been bullied he/she bullies someone else to let their frustrations out. also teens go way to far with it, to the point that some getting bullied even commit suicide. many people around me and around the world have been bullied. we should all respond to it by beating the shnatt out of them lol............ thanks for reading
ReplyDeletei think it would be pearpreshure. all teens go threw it in there hightschool ceerer. it the the worst because if you fall into it it could change your life. like for instant drugs, if you do it it would change your life forever.
ReplyDelete-pretty boy
I believe that one of the issues that has been facing our society is drugs. Science has advanced so much just in the past 10 years. New drugs are circulating in America.Chemists theese days can easily make complex, rare, and new drugs and label them as a chemical used for something else so almost anyone can order these "chemicals" that are actually used for consumtion. New drugs are coming out that don't have statistics on the effects. The law is easily being bent in this way. Being able to order these chemicals is just like a legal distribution of drugs. It makes you wonder what the next generation will bring.

The biggest problem facing teens today is discrimination and self worth. Today we spend so much time on Facebook and just compare our selves to other teens. Discrimination also plays a big role on Facebook. Cyber bulling is every where even if its the smallest comment. If we could just take out judgement and except everyone that would be amazing!

ReplyDeleteI think a big problem facing teens today is drama and bullying. Drama is such a big deal around here because people always get into it! It's like, whether you have a boyfriend or you're just talking to someone, people talk behind your back! It's ridiculous that it runs people's lives. Bullying can make people kill each other. Girls in our class can be very rude to me. Especially here lately, concerning what just happened a month ago. But it's pretty upsetting that people can't be nice to each other and not disrespect each other

ReplyDeleteI think one of the biggest problems in teens today is teen pregnancy. It's sad because it forces kids to grow up and take on a lot of responsibility.
There are teens in our school going through this, but there is one story that really got to me.
When I was in the 8th grade, I had a teen neighbor that already had a kid. It was even worse because she was 13, the same age I was at the time. Her father had left them, so it was just herself, the new born, and her mother. There are a few major things that had happened as well. We tried to help them all we could, but it was just a bad situation. I don't know what happened after we moved, but I hope that they are doing better now.
A problem a lot of teens these days are going through is their "teenage stage" and use it as an excuse to not respecting themselves, their parents, and others around them. This issue can mostly be solved by helping as a parent to make sure your kids get good disipline and make sure they respect you in the right manner no matter whom their around. It may seem cool to them to talk back to their parents with friends over. Some get punished then don't think its very funny. Although they think its cool, most of their friends don't think it is. I know when my friends talk back to their parents, I don't like it. So I try to step in and help the mom so they can stop. Many also think to less of themselves and end up on the street not making the right choices. Among many others bullying has gottin' out of hand. Many are committing suicide because of bullies. I just think people need to mind their own business and worry about themselves and not what others think around them.
ReplyDelete-Katwomen(:
Weaker teens have the problem of bullying that they are constantly facing, which could be easily resolved if they learned how to stand up for themselves. Bullying is something that affects the entire world and will never go away. A problem that is more exclusive to places like Branson is prejudice against people of different races, beliefs, and ways of acting. This problem happens in other places around the world but it is very prominent in the Southeastern portion of the United States. Many people including me and my friends are affected by this prejudice for different reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe worst things teens face today is pear pressure. Pear pressure is really bad and really good because it can make someone do something they would have never thought of. Sometimes, though people will do good things they would also never do. I think parnets and teachers should help with that to make a posotive influence on the teens
ReplyDeleteRiku
I honestly think that bullying is the worst problem facing not just teens, but all kids everywhere. Some kids that were constantly bullied have commited suicide, or even have gone to the lengths of bringing a weapon to school and killing their bully! It's terrible, and none of it needs to happen. It's very easily avoided, too. Bullying may just seem like a fun little game to the bully, but to the kid being bullied, it's torture. It makes kids feel like they're trapped in a box that they need to go to drastic measures to get out of. So next time you are being encountered by an idiot that has a fun idea of messing with you, let them know that you mean business, and you won't take garbage from anybody.
ReplyDeleteThe most important issue facing teens nationwide is the great schism between all the different groups throughout the school. I see it everyday, the cool kids stick to the cool group, the jocks stick with other jocks, the highly acedemic kids stick with other highly intellectual kids. Anyone in between all the various groups is pretty much invisible. Most people don't even bother getting to know anyone outside their group. If one person's interests are different than the other's, they're instantly derogatory to it. People judge things they haven't even done or understand and mark it as "lame" or "gay". People need to break out of the typical schism rut of high school. Why be arrogant and ignorant towards people that you have to spend almost a quarter of your life with? Be kind, see things from every perspective before you seriously judge someone or something. Here's a metaphor: everyone has a story that only they can tell, so don't judge the book until you know all the stuff written inside it. You can keep your opinion, but remember that it might not always be factual. Where's the love people?
ReplyDeletei think that most important issue for us teens are: teen pregnancy , drugs, bulling and all of that go into peer pressure...this is a problem all over the world. yes i do know some people that do all of it. i feel like teens should have respect for themselves and others. some people need to realize what they do may not be whats best in life. teens pregnancy's really does go up every years so if teens think about better things in life and about that them maybe the percentage of teen pregnancys may descreace. Bulling and drugs really go together in one person is doing it then more people might want to do it, or most people just do it so that they may fit in with their group. so peer pressure goes with it all. if you are pressured enough times then you are just going to do it...
ReplyDeleteDont be like those people you see, but be yourself and don't try to do something to fit in with your group. choose different people to hangout with so that way your not involved with anything bad.
super-pups
i think an issue that teens are facing is drugs. whether it be cigarretes(or however you spell that) or.... well you know. i sure as heck doesnt affect me because i dont do drugs (for reals). drugs mess up your life man. im serious about it. and plus, they stink. so drugs blow. dont do them.
ReplyDeleteNevets
the biggest issue facing teens is peer pressure. because everyday they go through it soo much it is crazy. it is bad cuz if someone picks the wrong thing to do it can effect there everyday lifestyle if they keep on doing the same wrong thing. and it will stay with you for your whole life. so my adivce to teens is do the right thing.
ReplyDeletei think one of the biggest problems facing teens today is drugs, and drinking. i know a few people who suffer with drug addiction (not naming names) but the are so badly addicted the don't even care to even try to quit. the only thing they can do to really fight it is to just say no. for most teens saying no is hard because they want to be cool, but for others (like me) saying no is really easy because i personally don't care what people think of me!
ReplyDeleteBullying has to be one of the biggest issues teens face today. I think this because a lot of us teens do it and don't even think twice about what they did. And when someone bullies you, you feel like you need to bully someone else to get your self-esteem back up because yours have been torn down by someone else. In some cases teens go WAY to far with it and the person who is getting bullied gets to the point of they don't want to take it anymore and think about committing suicide. I think we should stop bullying and help the people who are getting bullied get revenge on the people who bully them!!!
ReplyDelete-Hi652
I think the biggest issue facing teens today is drugs. Peer pressure is all over and people say if you want to be cool you have to do drugs. Everyone that's on drugs always say they aren't bad for you so it wont hurt you if you do them. I don't think this is just a problem in our area, I think this is a problem all over.
ReplyDeleteOU-Sooner
I The biggest issues facing teens today is peer pressure, drugs, pregnancy. A lot of kids follow what there friends are doing and think there cool but end up changing peoples view on you as a personal level. Some kid do things are there own that cause someones reputation and self-esteem to plummet and to me these problems are everywhere everyday and the only way to stay away is to be yourself and not be that girl that got pregnant or that guy who got drunk at a party.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the biggest issue with teens today is peer pressure. I think this because there are so many kids doing drugs and drinking in our school. I mean come on theres like seven pregnant girls in our school I mean that couldn't have been planned. My bestfriend became a teen mom and I feel bad for her because of the struggles that she has to go through. I think this issue is important because so many people are going through this stuff right now and I dont think it should be happening and im so glad that i am above the influence.
ReplyDelete-10/11/10ilovejordan
I think that bullying and drugs are the things that effect teens now a days! Teens are being pressured by other teens in the hallways everyday. Teens dont really ever stand up for what they believe in because the peer pressure is so heavy on kids. I think its sad that kids cant stand up for what they believe in. Always stand up for yourself!
ReplyDeleteSpiderman(:
I think the biggest problems facing teens would have to be teen pregnancy and drug use. It doesnt just affect people in this area, but all around the world. It affects me personally because I know a lot of people who are involved with drugs. I think peer pressure and wanting to fit in are the main causes of this, which is also a problem.
ReplyDelete-volleyballerr12
I believe that a big problem facing teens today would be substance abuse. i know way too many teens that allreaddy have problems with smoking and drinking. there are even some in this school that have been smoking since they were ten years old. and the worst part is that they brag about it. this isn't just a problem facing this area, but a problem all over
ReplyDelete~Judah Josiah
To me, Teens are faced with the most problems compared to other age groups. We are just now becoming adults and being exposed to new things and experiences. I think sex in high school is becoming a really big problem. I personally know more than one that is involved with this and I don't think they really see the consequences of it because I think they continue even after having health class.
DeleteI think a big problem with teens now a days are drugs and bullying others. first off drugs arent good for you anyways, yeah people will ask you if you want to try them just say NO. They mess up your life and your whole future. there is so much bullying around the world its not even funny. Yeah the kid that bullys get a laugh out of it but stop and think about how that other kid feels he or she goes home and thinks there life isnt inportant and thats not true there just as inportant than you are. bullying makes me sick i see it happen all the time and ive stop some bullying myself.
ReplyDeletepitbull
i think one thing that is affecting teens is self image. Because on magazines and on TV they see people who are said to have the perfect bodies, perfect hair, perfect clothes. And i know in school many people struggle to have that "style" and i know girls who get up an hour early just to make sure their hair and make up is perfect. Also i've heard of girls having weight issues and going to the extreme like anorexia and what not to get to that goal weight and many become under weight.
ReplyDeleteSome of the biggest problems facing teens are pregnancy, drugs, drinking, and sex. So many teenage girls in our school are pregnant its crazy! Some people in our school have smoking since 7th grade. Drinking leads to pregnacy. and while people drink and do drugs they will end up on the streets doing meth and hard liquor!! Thats horrible.
ReplyDelete~Bon Quisha'~
I think the biggest thing facing teens today would be peer presure. And this is not just in our area, this happens all around the world and at all different times about different things. My firend has had peer presure towards drugs because he was hanging out with the wrong people and you wouldve never guessed hed have this problem, but he did and with the hekp of his friends he over came this. I think this is the most important issue because this is the biggest thing facing our teens in schools. It happens everyday wether we see it or not.
ReplyDelete~Sophie 12
I think the biggest problem for teens today is peer pressure. So many kids try to pressure their friends, along with other people, to do things that they don't want to. Only a handful of people will actually stand up and say no. Even if that means losing friends. I don't know anyone personally that is being pressured. I have quite a few times, but I'm one of those people that stand up and say no. I think everyone should just say no, who cares what other people think. Just be yourself! :)
ReplyDeletei think that the issue that effects kids the most these days is probably just trying to fit in adn being accepted. both ogf those thing are reasons why kids to the thing that they do now good and bad. the bad things that this can cause is people to do drugs, smoke, or drink.
ReplyDeletewings12
I really liked the king he was Brave and Courageous. I think the problem facing teens is what people think. We care way to much about what people think about us. We need to really not care. Also drug use is a huge one and pregnancy is also a big one.
ReplyDelete~WASABI~
There are a lot of things teens are struggling with these days. The one issue i think we are mostly dealing with is suicide because of bullying. It pains me to see people get bullied everyday. I completely understand how it feels and i wish that others would discover how much of an effect it has on people. Gays are facing the worst these days. We shouldn't have to put them through the torture we do each day. Let them be who they want to be. It's not hurting anyone.
ReplyDeleteAlcohol and drugs are probably the most important issue facing teens today. I believe that this is a problem all around the world and that these issues can be fixed. One of my friends that ive known since third grade, later on, became addicted to these death inducing things. That person had struggled through life and as much as i tried and wanted to help him, i couldnt. Much later my friend had found someone very special to his heart dearly and decided to change his perspective in life and stop with those horrible habbits. His companion agreed to help stop his wretched addiction as well. Eventually he was saved, and with the help of his friends got his life turned back around. I know that there are many others just like him, and i know i cant change them if they dont want to, but those who are in need of help and life changing, i am willing to try.
ReplyDelete-Bmmarble
One big thing that is facing teens today is peer preasure I thin that this is a big problem because this can lead to most of the thing that face teens today most teens wont just go out and do randum drugs or or rob some place No its usally fueled by a group of frinds feeding on each others stupid ideas First hand knolage
ReplyDeleteMat jounkie
I believe the main problem facing teens Everywhere is that teens use drugs! I believe that drugs take control of teens today. Music and TV advertizes drugs and teens use them and think they don't effect you but they very much do! They change how you think, act, and even who you are! All teens look at is the "good" things, like how they bring people together. They might bring people together but at the same time they change who you are inside.. When you here all this stuff like don't use drugs, it doesn't mean that they don't want you to have fun but they are trying to protect you from throwing things away, because when teens use drugs, that's what they worry about is using drugs and having fun. Life is not just about having fun, in life you have to earn things, not just going out and going to parties and putting all the important stuff secound. Iv used before and I was like most teens and told myself that everything is fine and drugs weren't effecting anything, but in the end my life was so messed up! I was throwing my education away, I was losing my family, people and things I loved.. Ill be honest, I loved doing drugs, but in the end, you lose everything...
ReplyDeletenewboy xp
Some problems facing teenagers nowadays is the use of drugs and alchohol. There is alot of peer pressure telling kids who are not old enough to do that stuff. It is hurting there insides and is also bringing them down a bad life of crime. Because if they would take the risk to do drugs when they are underage then what wouldn't stop them from robbing someone or robbing a store when they are older. So out of all of the problems that face teenagers i believe that drugs and alchohol is the worst one.

i think a problem faceing teenagers is teen pregnacy. i think it is world wide problem. many teens are out haveing sex and not telling their parents so they arnt protected by birth control. some teens dont even use protection at all and its starting to show. i know of atleast 5 girls in this school who are pregnant or just recently had a child. it is very scary to think about being this young and having a kid. teens dont think about it but it is ruining their whole life. they will struggle through out school if they dont drop out first. they will not be able to go out and do the things a teenager should be able to do.
ReplyDeletesweetpea10
I think one of the biggest issues that teens face is drugs and teen pregnancy. I don't have much knowlage on this topic, but sometimes when i walk in the hall, I catch the scent of a person that has been smoking. Then I have seen students that have been pregnant, most of it having to do with MTV's show Teen Mom.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest issue facing teens today are racism, cyber-bullying, drinking and driving, peer pressure, and trying to fit in. Many students in high school feel the pressure to fit in so they don't always make the right decisions.
ReplyDeleteriverswimmin.
the biggest problem facing teens in this generation is technology, and drugs. most people think that technology is a good thing, and it is, but only to a point. Teens during this generation are technology addicts and i think that it will only get worse. I dont watch T.V. hardly at all and dont really play video games and i'm thankful for not having the option to play video games or watch T.V. because it opens my day up to so much more things that actually matter. most teens have never even been in the woods or watched the sun set because they are to occupied texting or playing meaningless games. And the same thing goes for drugs. they keep you from living to your fullest potential.

ReplyDeletethe biggest thing facing teens these days is life and the way things are going in there own. kids are so reliant on there peers and there elders. they never stop to think that they need to live there own life. they take after so many different people that they dont know what being real to them selves is anymore. the hardest thing teens deal with is peer pressure and trying to fit in with the crowd around them. they dont need to do that they need to live there own life the way they want to. and dont let people influence them to live it anyother way.
I beleve one of the biggest issues in todays teens is bulling. It is a world wide problem that many adults just push it off because they feel like if its not pysically hurting someone then everything will be okay. Many would argue and say the biggest problem in teens would be peer pressure but you have other people to turn to when someone is trying to peer pressure you. I have a very close family member (my brother) that use to always get bullied. They would say everything that they could to put him down and they did it for there own enjoyment. My cousin was also bullied. Not physically so the principles would get the other kids a few days of ISS and my Aunt and Uncle would drop it cause the kids were getting introuble but that made it worse on my cousin. The principle would tell my cousin that if they actually hit her or hurt her physically then they would be suspended. They kept on and on tell my cousin was found in her room dead. She had cut herself and took all the pills in the house. She made a video right before she died and it was for all the people that had bullied her. She spoke to them directly and right before she killed herself in the video she said you can now watch me die. Whatch what you did to me. You killed me inside now i die outside and the video showed her killing herself. Many other teens have been in that same spot. Some respond different then others but bully do it for there own pleasure.

i think one of the problems facing teens today is girls having babies. theres A LOT of girl in our school that are prego. other one is drugs, its not just teens that are doing them its other people too.
ReplyDeletethere are so many things that us teens are facing, pregnancy, drugs & alcohol, bullying, and people getting into other peoples business or relationships. pregnancy is one of the main ones right now. really people, that is suppost to be saved for marriage. seriously girl … all men think you are is a piece of meat, and after the baby is born they may not want anything to do with you or the baby. bullying is the second biggest thing that is going around in our school. its sad to see someone bully another kid just because of the fact that they might be a little bit bigger than you. or is it because of the fact that your so insecure about yourself that you have to put someone else down. seriously get a life and deal with the issues that you have. don’t take it out on someone else because your having issues at home or you and your friends think its funny. well I am here to tell you that its not. last year I got picked on because of my weight. the people thought that it was funny and cool. i showed them that it wasn’t going to bother me. but when reality set in I went home and cryed. so you need to deal with your issues and get over yourself
ReplyDeletelittlemisspriss
I think teens deal with a lot now day like peer pressure. Or being called names, and people thinking they are more popular than other peoplle. So they think they can treat you like crap and get away with it .I mean really thats how you have to be to be cool or what. I think teens now days think there all big and bad and can do whatever they want whenever they want. I remember when I got picked on for my weight, people just laugh cuz they think they are cool when they make fun of other people. I remember going home some days and crying. I think they just do that to bring up there self-esteem. and i dont understand why teens think its cool to go have sex and do drugs. I mean you are just making your future so bad for your self. I think those people just dont care it dont matter who you are. Even if you are going though hard times it dont mean drugs will make it better. I wisk teens would just get that though there minds and it would be better. Well thats all have to say about this topic.
