Writing. Some of you love it. Some of you think you hate it. A few may actually hate it, but that may be because you only associate it with assignments from school. To be honest, who doesn't hate some of those?! As writing is one of the main components of our curriculum, it is my job to provide you with a multitude of opportunities to write to a variety of purposes and audiences, and--as with any assignment--different ones will always appeal to different people. But 'real' writing has so many more advantages. Sometimes we write just to "dump the junk" as Mrs. Jones loves to say; this is where we have so much going on we just write it all down sort it out, to see what our thoughts really are about the subject, or simply to let it go. Sometimes we write when we are happy--or when we are sad--just to express those emotions that seem so overwhelming we just have to get them out! Sometimes, we write to remember: what we think or how we feel about someone; I often write things down about my dad, stories I don't want to forget, things about him I want my kids to know too. Other times, we write to organize our thoughts, compare positives and negatives before making decisions, make a list of things we need to do. Finally, there are times we write just for the opportunity to create something, maybe poetry, songs, or stories. We write because we live, and because we want to share our experiences, our lessons we've learned the hard way, our good fortune, our THOUGHTS with each other! Blogging gives us the chance to do any of these things. What I do on this site isn't actually considered blogging in the grand scheme of things; it is merely providing you with opportunities to share your thoughts on a particular subject. Online journal prompts where I occasionally (okay, maybe more than occasionally) add in my two cents worth. Over the past few months, I have been really excited about the ways in which you have opened up, written more--shared more--in your entries. So, while we are on Spring Break, I am giving you a blank slate. Write about what you want, for any reason that you want. You can dump the junk, write a poem, share something you've written for any reason, tell me what you are doing over the break, express your concerns about the unfairness of life, outline your ideas of how to make the world a better place ... anything. The possibilities are endless. All of you have to do is ... write. As Ernest Hemingway once said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." Okay, I know none of you are using a typewriter, but you get the point (and substitute 'keyboard' or 'touchscreen' if it makes you feel better!). Share your thoughts. Share yourself.
"I see knowledge increasing and human power increasing. I see ever-increasing possibilities before life, And I see no limits set to it at all, Existence impresses me as a perpetual dawn. Our lives, as I apprehend, are great in expectations." - H. G. Wells

Okay, SuperMan, here is the deal: You were missing Blogs 16, 20, and now 21. You made up 16, posted on Blog 15 since 16 is blocked at school for some reason. Then, you commented on 17 and 18, asking me to give you grades for those entries. Are you listening carefully? YOU HAVE GRADES FOR THOSE ENTRIES. YOU HAVE ALWAYS HAD GRADES FOR THOSE ENTRIES. YOU ARE STILL MISSING BLOGS 20 AND 21. If you would like to complete those entries, I would be happy to put grades in for those as well.

ReplyDeleteDuring spring break, I had my wisdom teeth removed. When I went in, I was totally freaking out and couldn't stay still when they were giving me the numbing shouts. I was actually hyperventilating and shaking! After I had received the numbing shots and was sitting there for a couple of minutes, I had calm down. When they started, I was completely calm. Everything went a lot faster then I had expected.
When I went home, my mom and sister took care of me. They were very good to me and did very well. I was very tired and couldn't eat whole food (I still can't). I was so happy when I was able to start talking again! It makes you realize how much you really appreciate the small things. Without even realizing it!
I'm recovering very well and doing good. :) Right now the only discomfort I have are the stitches. I can feel them in the back of my mouth and its a little bothersome. I'll be getting them out Monday. I'm very ready to get back to the flow of things!
Hope you're enjoying your spring break Ms Snow!!! :)

ReplyDeletespring break. gone too fast.
sleeping. eating. traveling.

Over spring break I went to Biloxi, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee with my best friend. We went swimming in the ocean (my first time, i was scared), many walks, shopping, & ate to much junk/fast food. We drove with my friends grandparents, we even got our own tee-shirts made with our "nicknames" on the back. I actually just got back today around 4 p.m.

Spring Break is fun most of the time! at least other times it has been. This time I have barely done anything at all! most productive thing I did was take my dog on a walk! Everyday I went outside on my driveway and laid out for two hours! Trying my best to get sun. Don't think I stayed out long enough, I can barely tell any difference! It was very nice to just lay around and not have to care about anything... Even though I know it's ending soon. I am actually at my friends house right now! We went to the lake today, got Andy's frozen custard, and ran around in a sprinkler at night! Man I am having so much fun! It sure was cold at night! No hot sun to heat me up.. so instead I played volleyball and bad mitten (if thats how you spell it). I hope everyone else had a fantastic break! :)
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why we have to do things like research papers anyway. When is knowing aobut THE UNKNOWN ever going to help me in life?? adn how does this one assignment comletly kill my grade for the whole term? If I have it started but not finished will it help my grade if i give it to you on monday? and I dont have the work cited stuff at all except the ones i got from ebscohost in the library.
ReplyDeleteAll good questions! First, we have to do research papers because research, evaluating sources, analyzing information, writing, and MLA format are all part of our curriculum for the state of Missouri. But even more importantly, research papers help you build and refine skills that you WILL use all of your life: deciding whether or not something you read is reliable, finding and understanding information, looking at something and being able to form your own opinion/draw your own conclusions about it--these are all valuable life skills. In addition, the research paper pattern teaches about organization and structure, and the MLA format allows you to follow step-by-step instructions (no matter how insignificant and unimportant it may seem at the time); believe me, regardless of what career path you eventually choose, your future employers WILL value these skills.
DeleteNow, because these ARE important skills, I told you all from the start of the semester that research would be a HUGE part of your grade. To help you all out with this, I divided the grades between Terms 4 and 5 with the folders and the papers being roughly equivalent in value (so neither half by itself could kill you for the semester). As it is only midterm of Term 5, we don't have very many grades in yet, so all the grades over the next three weeks will be figured in to this grade as well.
However, anything you turn in at this point WILL help your grade considerably. Print out what you have, get some points now, and then we'll go from there! And for those of you who are equally concerned about receiving a poor grade on what you have turned in, you will have the chance to revise your paper and raise this grade (not a separate revision grade). MLA is a big deal, but it is an easy thing to fix. If you need help, all the information is on the blog (between prompts 18 and 19), and the Research Links are valuable resources as well providing even more information and a model paper to look at. If you need more help, by all means, come in a see me before school any day or during Pirate Time, and I will be happy to go through it with you!
But for now, this blog is for bonus point entries. As you have expressed your opinion quite vehemently in writing (!), I would be happy to give you some, if only you will let me know who you are! Every point helps!! :)
This year Spring Break went by way, way too fast for me! Me and my family did something everyday together. We went down to Arkansas for a few days and stayed at a really nice, clean cabin. It had three full size beds and one queen size bed. It also had a volleyball net, a basketball hoop, and a pavillian with a fireplace underneath. From the tornado we saved some baby squirrels and their eyes are just starting to open! My cousins found a couple too, but they're actually looking big and more like actual squirrels. I can't wait til summer to be here... we're half way done with high school already. It's gone by so, so fast!

time to write something with a happy theme
ReplyDeleteone where evil in it will never sceme
one where you think happy thoughts
one where theirs no need to connect the dots
one where theirs no need to cry
and the innocent never die

on my spring break i went fishing with my friend trever and i hanged with my family and then i went swimming with two of my friends then walked five miles from her house to the landing and we went to mcdonalds and then we went to the dollar shop and we got to the landing and we all went to bass bro shop and i saw a rifle for 500 hundred dollars and a crossbow that was pretty cool and then my step mom picked us up and we almost slammed into a car that was being a idiot not watching where he was going and dropped my friend off out her house then i went home and had to do chores and fished and went on bike rides for the rest of the weekend

Well since i wrote in journal 22 about having a bad spring break im probly in a nice way gonna exsplain why. Without the adding of names of course... Well i recently got over it cause I talked to some people who helped me get through the struggle. Most of my spring break I spent being grounded and babysitting... Big saprise.... And my mother wonders why im moveing out on my birthday.... But anyway before spring break I had actually manged to stay ungrounded for a short time for once..... On Saturday the guy that I really care for was finally gonna ask me out from what one of his friends "accsadently" told me during class... Well since the wondeful people that is my family.... Aka moms boyfriend... Grounded me I coulde'nt really go anywhere or use my phone. Well after Saturday passed and I finally got home from babysitting I got on my phone anyway. The guy that I care for basicially told me that he still liked me but he liked this other chick more so all the time we spent and everything that was going on in the past month now had to stop... Which really crushed me cause he was one of the only few people that made me happy or smile. It did'nt even bother me with the age difference eaither he just as a person was great... And he still is. But because of what happened and all the information people were telling me, it just kept building up more and more and more making the way I felt worse by the second, to the point when school actually started up again.. I ignored him completly for almost the whole week... Which is actually really nice of me. I'm still not speaking with once of my exes that i broke up with in Auguest. Well just recently I talked to someone who helped me relise maybe what was going on wasen't as bad as I thought it was.... I mean he could have been like most guys I know.... (Not saying any names.) Who lead girls on till they get what they want, then tell them that their into someone els. Or even another example he could have asked me that day. Than all the time I spent being grounded he could have ran around with the other girl and cheated on me.... So even though i'm still a little hurt it's not really about what I want. It's more about what makes him happy and what he thinks is the right thing to do.... And the fact that he actually told me the truth makes me even more happy. And i'm just happy were good friends and that I can talk to him about anything.... But i'm not gonna lie since i'm blogging... I miss him more than anything. And i'm almost wondering if my desicion was the right thing to do. If anyone reads this can you tell me what you think??? thank you.

I'm actually glad we had spring break when we did. Yeah, we had a few rainy days but the rest were sunny and bright! Most of spring break I hung out with my boyfriend, helped him with his car, and played basketball. Then right in the middle of the week he got very sick and I took care of him as much as I could. He ended up having to go to the ER because his throat was swelling up. I was so worried because when this was occuring, I was in Illinois visiting my family. When I came back, I was happy to hear he was better! :D
ReplyDeleteI went to St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois for spring break. It was amazing, and the pizza in both locations were to die for. Of course, the Chicago pizza was better, but the St. Louis pizza was still very good.
ReplyDeleteChicago's famous deep dish pizza places were awesome, and I had never heard of eating pizza with a fork, but I guess that's the way they do it in Chicago. In St. Louis, I went up in the arch, too! It was exhilarating, and I could have sworn that there was less oxygen up there!

Spring Break is WAY past, but just to "dump the junk," I'll just talk about fun stuff. Well, for starters, my cousin is going to have her baby any day now. We are so excited!! We have been doing a lot of yard work lately, preparing for Spring :). It's been beautiful lately outside! Just yesterday, I took my little cousin and myself out for a walk. We both had a good time soaking up the sun :). It's too beautiful outside to stay all cooped up in the house. It ain't winter anymore, people!

YAY BONUS POINTS FOR EXTRA EFFORT! But seriously, I'm going to try to write a poem about... Kittens. Here it goes I guess;
ReplyDeleteKittens are cute,
Kittens aren't lame.
Kittens are small,
But bring much pain.
They are so soft,
They are so neat.
They think that everything is to eat.
Why are kittens cool?
I don't know, but don't throw one in a pool.
They have sharp teeth,
They have soft fur.
If you pet one long enough,
It just might purr.
They like to cuddle
And sleep on your neck.
Then make an accident and you go
"what the heck!"
I love kittens.
I think they are swell.
I just freaking love them!
Can you not tell?
Well now this poem must come to an end.
But keep this in mind,
A kitten will always be a good friend.
THE END

during spring break my mom went on a cruise to jamacia and the cammon islands and my sister and her kids went to michagain. i was supposed to go to my dads but i didnt want to so i got to stay with my friend. which didnt happen i stayed home all of spring break till the night before my mom got back. me and my friends stayed their actually. one night me and my friend stayed their and his girlfriend stayed and my girlfriend stayed it was pretty fun. except i had to buy the pizza. i got $160 for spring break and spent it all. $40 was supposed to be for my phone bill but i didnt save any and so i had to wait awhile before i could pay it again. that thing about writing down stuff about your dad for your kids is pretty cool. i think im gonna start doing that about my family. i wonder how many note books i could fill up with all my storys of my family untill i have kids that are old enough for me to share all my storys with. i cant wait to start a family with mackenzie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its going to be so awesome. i love her so much and to start a family with her would be my life. we have been together over a year now and she always tells me she will never leave me. i just hope its true. i know i would never leave her. well unless she cheated or something but shes not like that. shes the sweetest girl ever and she makes me the happiest guy alive. i am so lucky to have someone like her in my life. shes what makes me actually try in life. i try so i can grow up and when i have a family with her be able to support that family and give them everything they want and make my family the happiest family ever. MAN ITS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
