"Shakespeare is the happy hunting ground of all minds that have lost their balance." - James Joyce
Shakespeare! Our last unit of the year!! I am so excited! Possibly because I love literature, both reading it and teaching it, and possibly because I am beyond excited to be done with testing for the year! :) However, I know that my enthusiasm for the Bard is not shared by everyone. So for this week's online journal entry, tell me: What subject do you love? During the last couple of weeks, I have discovered we have several creative and talented poets in our midst. Do you also love literature or some type of creative writing? Or do your interests lie in other subjects altogether? What is your favorite subject here at school, or what is one thing from one subject which captivates your interest? Ooh, one last thing: What is your opinion about Shakespeare going into this last unit? Has Romeo and Juliet been your only Shakespearean encounter thus far? What do you remember? What did you learn? What obstacles impeded learning, in your opinion? Why have his works been studied over and over for over four hundred years?! Wow, that is really two different prompts, isn't it? Better make your answers twice as long then! No slacking!! ;)

My favorite subject is math. Jsut something about numbers and equations to me is easy. To me math is dependable and constant unlike other subjects like shakespear and someof his writings. Yes for me Romeo and Juliet is the only thing i have read from shakespear but that that will soon change this week in English class.

my favorite subject is english when we do peotry. i feel like it is a way i can exspess myself without getting in trouble. once i start righting and get what i need said out i feel soo much better. i feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.o and for the shakespeak i think that it is okay. i get some off it. what i got out of it last year was that 2 people were inlove when they weren't supost to and then died
ReplyDeleteA subject that interests me the most this year has been biology. I always learn new things in science classes and I love it. My favorite type of creative writing is probably just making up your own stories or non-fiction. I remember watching the Romeo Juliet movie last year and it was very confusing because it had a modern twist in it. He is a very creative and imaginative writer though. I think I will enjoy the Shakespeare unit and I'm excited.
ReplyDeleteDuuuuuudeee...Mrs. Snow why are you aking us do this one? cant we do another about music, donuts, or monkeys?? haha jk. although ive never been a fan of shakespeare. i kinda am then not, one cause poetry is used everyday in music, and some of dont even realize that. but anyways romeo and juliet was lame. hate romances. i like comedies. more of a funny guy right? yeah I think so
ReplyDeleteFive-0
Shakespear is not the only story I have encountered, I have also seen the Midsummers Night Dream before. And I dont really have a favorite subject, but if I abslutely had to choose one, I would choose Honors Biology. But when it comes the english and literature all I really like to do is write and write about things I feel like writing about and when I feel like doing it. These arent like poems or anything these are pages upon pages of just something I decided to write about or maybe I decided to start a stroy. I cant tell you how mnay notebooks I have in my room that jusst have the most random things written in it and I cant even count how many journals I have cuz I go through them too fast :) I dont know I just love to write and thats about as far as I go with anything literature or english wise. And Shakespear will be challenging because there are so many things to pay attention to and to make sure you keep track of whos who and whats going on.
ReplyDeletewell english is never my thing but the only thing i like to read is a book that fits my personality because when it is somthing im not knowing what kind of book it is i will have a hard time reading it. but i am really active and love to be outside
ReplyDeleteMy favorite subject in school would have to be gym because I love to be active and you don't have to learn anything! In English, I like to read poems or rhyming quotes that I can understand but other than that I just like to read books every once in a while. In History although, I do like learning about what happened during the Holocaust... like what started it, how did he come to power, and what happed during that period of time. It's soo sad though.. but interesting. I absolutely hate Shakesspeare.. I feel its soo hard to understand and I would rather us read something else.. Romeo and Juliet has been my one and only Shakespearean encounter this far and the story behind it is good. I still think reading it was hard to understand though. I don't know why so many people have studied it for so many years.. maybe it's what started poetry and plays. Not too sure!

Spanish is my favorite subject because it's like taking a bite of pudding: very easy! :) haha.. I enjoy speaking it, plus learning the structure and grammar usage of the language has bettered my understanding of the English language and its grammar. Pretty awesome :). I really didn't like Romeo and Juliet. Too whiney for my tolerance to handle. I think Shakespeare could've done better with more mature couples that are older and aren't in the stage of puberty! I've learned that attempted mature love in teen years is crap. It doesn't work, because you have to be mature to understand this, hence, it's called mature love for a reason. His work has been studied for hundreds of years because his poetry and language, at that time, is difficult to understand, being in modern times. Yay for us!
ReplyDeleteM_123
"Too whiney for my tolerance to handle." HAHAAAAHAAA! That is awesome! You are wise beyond your years M-123!! ;)
DeleteMy favroite unit would have to be Shakespear. I think all of his stories have a unique story line. My favorite subject in school would have to be Science. Sorry Mrs. Snow! Science always makes me happy! I find myself looking up random things at home! All I remember about last year when we read Romeo and Juliet was the hard reading and the romance. I'm obbssesed with romance! I can't read a book if it doesnt have some time of romance in it!
ReplyDeleteI really don't like poetry. It bores me. Romeo and Juliette has been the only one of Shakespeare's works I have read. I really like history and my biology class. We are learning about the holocaust and i really enjoy that. We watched a movie about it and it was super sad. In biology we are learning about sea creatures. I really like that too. I'm glad summer is almost here!!!
ReplyDeleteSpiderman(:
my favorite subject so far this year would probably have to be poetry. Iv always had a huge passion for poetry and creative writing. I am some what excited to get into Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet has not been my only Shakespeare so far, well it kinda has because I have only read the first act of A Mid Summers Night Dream before we got into it.
ReplyDeleteProbably one of my favorite subjects in school would be science classes. Science classes interest me more than literature but i do enjoy reading. And i think Shakespeare was a creative guy and romeo and juliet is the only literature written by shakespeare that i have read.
ReplyDeleteno i dont like it cause im not good at it. if i was good i would be ok and think its would be fun but im not good so i dis like it. some of the authors i like and there writtings cause it sound cool and very creative. thats how i feel bout this litature.
ReplyDelete-pretty boy
I would have to say my favorite subject at school is history I just find it really interesting. Right now were learning about history that my grandparents lived through haha I think it's neat that I'm able to talk to them about the memories that they have of history. It's just crazy to think my grabdparents were alive during world war 2 and the Martin Luther king stuff just everything. They're old technically they are my great grandparents. Romeo and Juliet Is the only Shakespeare play that I've read or learned about I learned that sometimes love is worth giving up your life for it at least in some cases.
ReplyDelete-10/11/10ilovejordan
I like writing music. Probably because I have a very good ear for music so I can put lyrics with it easly. My favourite subject at this school is probably Spanish, because I like learning different languages. I think going into Shakespeare at the end of the school year is the best time because I really do not like drama. "Romeo and Juliet" is the only other thing I've ever read by him before. I dont remeber much about the play.... They liked eachother and killed themselves because they were stupid, yeah that's about it.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite subject all together is Science. I like science because it is easy for me and I think that the subject is easy, especially with mr. Hampton. I dont really like english that much just because I think that once someone learns how to speak a language that that is good enough. I don't understand why we need to learn all of the different types of literature, poetry, and punctuations and stuff. I think that being able to have a casual conversation is good enough for a high school student . It is always good to be able to write a good paper for scholarships, applications and for your grades but the average person will never need to do more than that. sorry if that diss on english hurt your feelings but I'm just giving you my honest opinion. I don't think Shakespeare is that bad though, only if you put it in the easy to read format. I hate trying to understand the original script, its like trying to read hieroglyphics. Romeo and juliet I hated but so far I'm liking A midsummer nights dream.
ReplyDelete- Aquaman
My favorite subject is ag structures because I like to build stuff. I don't like any other classes except for that and weights. Literature and writing are probably my least favorite subjects. Especially poetry. Poetry is the worst subject on the earth. Shakespeare is really boring to me and Romeo and Juliet was the only Shakespeare thing I have read. I really didn't learn anything from Romeo and Juliet because I slept through most of it. Plus, they don't even speak regular English.
ReplyDeleteOU-Sooner
I like this unit every year! Or at least the time after testing where we do all the script reading and stuff. I enjoy being loud and using different voices to make the parts more enjoyable. Granted, Shakespeare can be really opaque in comparision to modern day, and even more confusing. But honestly, it really doesnt help when people get a part and are all like,"This is lame. SO boring," and then they just read words off of a page in a way that makes it hard to understand when a sentence begins or ends. I may not understand it, but I do enjoy making all the different voices for parts in Shakespearean works. As for poetry, i dunno... Sometimes I can write good poetry, sometimes it's always crap. For that reason, rarely ever do I write poetry. As for music, I love music. I'm taking theory classes to better understand the vast universe of music. Hopefully, I would like to understand it enough to actually write music and produce it for everyone to enjoy.
ReplyDeletei dont really like english. Its very boring to me. But i like math. Theres so many different ways to do it. I think it makes me think, and i like to be challenged. And yes romeo and juliet is the only shackspear that i have came in counter with. What i learned about romeo and juliet is that there was alot of mixed feeling in it, and people in that were very quick to make a decision. They fell in love so quick. I dont know it was a really weird book.
ReplyDelete*boogie*
My favorite subject in school is either chemistry or algebra. I like math! I know, i'm one of few. I just like the challange I guess. English is alright. I mean I like writing but I don't like having to learn structurs of writing and so on so forth. Romeo and Julliet is the only Shakespeare I have encountered. Everybody liked it. I'm not the biggest fan of old stuff. I don't like the way they talked, wrote, actually anything. Even old movies I don't like. They kinda bore me. I like intence!
ReplyDelete-katwomen(:
I defineatly dont like english but my favorite subject is probably math. i dont like literature or writing because it bores me. so pretty much i am not interested in it at all and i dont like shakespeer cause he is hard to understand.
ReplyDeletethanks for listening
SnowRocks
my favorite subjwect would definitely be math. it just comes really easily to me. i like english but only when free writing my own story. i also like history, well american history. i haven't read romeo and juliet but i did read taming of the shrew which was very interesting. i like shakespear but i don't like how in class we read the modern text. i like to read the original and form an idea on what it says myself. and ps i'm so glad we're almost out of school.
ReplyDelete~Judah Josiah
I would have to say English is my favorite subject. I love reading and writing poetry. it inspires me to just poor out my feelings. i guess Shakespeare can be hard to understand but if u put your mind to it then i guess you'll get it. Romeo and Juliet is a good movie and play. i really dislike depressing plays were one person kills them self and their true love does the same.
ReplyDeletesuperpups23
I enjoy reading poetry and even though I dont know what the meaning is the fun part is finding the meaning. my favorite subject would have to be world history. as it tells how we came to be from Mesopotamia to the techno logic world today. I enjoy shake spear a little to much stupid love but its fun to read.
ReplyDeletemy favorite subject is weights. bc their is no hard thinking at all just lifting weights and getting stronger. i also like listening to music although it isnt a subject because it helps me calm down when im upset or it just always puts me in a great mood. i listen to music everyday almost all day.
ReplyDeletemmcbjy
my favorite subject is probably ag i dont like english and i dont like writing i dont like shakespear cause his stuff is boring and makes no sense
ReplyDeletegibson
my favorite subject will have to be biology becuase i am doing really good in the class and i was always good at that.to be honest i really dont like shakesphere because it is not that interesting to me but i guess since we are reading it in your class its cool.so thats what i think about shakesphere
ReplyDeletei favorite subject is biology. i think it is really easy i have a 100% in that class. next year i am going into human physiology. i think it will be really easy but there is alot of memorization. i am not good with that. i dont like shakespeare because i think it is boring. and it is something that i will never be interested in. i just cant sit there and read his plays and books. but i do like writing. i could write all day. but shakespeare does not interest me.
ReplyDeletebigC
In english i think i like the poetry the most because it interests me and catches my attention. My favorite subject in school i biology!! i love genetics! I like shakesphere its very unique and strange in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite subject, but when i was in branson elimentary and intermediate, it was always P.E. Considering i'm in weights, i dislike that class very much and that also includes all of my other classes.
ReplyDeleteThe only shakspear i've heard of would be of the famous play ROMEO AND JULIET. In our english class we didnt really go over any of it, we read the script a little, while acting it out, and then just watched the movie. We watched the older version of it and the new one, and honestly i liked the old one a lot better.
-Bmmarble
im not a big fan of both. i dont really like to read so i never do.
ReplyDeleteMy favortie subject is prbably math, cuz im really fast at it. And yes, Romeo and Juliet was the only shakspear ive ever read. But i really like it. Midsummer night is really good alo. I've enjoyed it. (:
ReplyDeleteI loved doing poetry. It gives me good thoughts and helps me think more. So I have enjoyed reading and writing poetry. My favorite subject would have to be biology because I have done very well in that class all year and I've been encourage a lot in that class. That was also the class with one of my favorite teacher!
ReplyDeletemy favoret subject is team sports because i can let out my anger while paying. a subject that my intrested in is chemistry because when i grow up i want to be a demolition (blow stuff up). im what you call a pyro. i dont know why but im a pyro.
ReplyDeleteblackwolf
My favoret subject would have to be drama because it just pulls me in anything that has to do with acting and being on stage is the place to be to me i would live in the theatre if i had a chance to thats how much i love it . And of cource it is not my frist time with shakspere my favoret play he wrote is Macbeth i think that should win over the everybotty not romeo and juliet or Midnights Summers Dream i mean Macbeth is different the the others to me Romeo and Juliet and MSD is much the same with Love and exadera . i do love Shakspere and his works his very talented and i think ive learned alot about love from him not every realionship in real life is forever and most of the time you like someone there eather taken or dont like you so what i learned is that dont fall in love with the 1st person you see .
ReplyDeleteGlitterGirl
I love math when i understand it. sometimes math can be hard to understand. I like all the problems and solving them. My second favorite subect is english,I love all the plays and stuff learning how people use to entertain there selfs back then. When they had nothing to do that night or during the day.Romeo and Juliet they story of two star crossed loves, and all the fighting that took place. I think part of that story ment that you cant stop true love. And just because you dont get along with people dosnt mean you have to hate them forever ,fix your differences. And one last thing this just came to mind ' live life how you want to, dont let the little things in your life stand in the way of what you belive in.' I know someone had to say this before me just dont know who so i put it in quoations.
ReplyDelete~Purple
ReplyDeleteMy favorite subjects is math and science. They are not the easist for me, but I think they are more of a challenge and fun. I like figuring how to solve things and how everything works.
I don't mind Shakespeare. His work can be hard to understand sometimes and have several meanings to it. His plays are very beautiful and poetic, but I don't mind them that much. I have liked reading his play this year. I did like that more then the one we read last year.
My favorite subject, English wise, is reading fiction novels. If it were at all possible (considering my hour, I highly doubt this would ever happen) I would have a day of just reading, everyone bring in a novel of their choosing and just read. We could have small groups based on genre and discuss what is happening in our books.
ReplyDeleteSubject wise, my favorite is Science I love to learn how things work, and am always watching "Curiosity" on the Science Channel.
My only experience with Shakespeare is "Romeo and Juliet" and a Doctor Who episode with him and "Love Labors Lost" and the infamous lost play "Love Labors Won." Other than those two things, I have not read any of Shakespeare's works.
My most favorite subject is Math, but I love the algebra of it. :) However, Romio and Juliet was my first encounter, and I loved it. How two people coming from completely different families, who are also suppose to hate each other, but ended up fallig madly in love, was wonderful. But I would love to read more Shakspear.
ReplyDelete- Lilawas
The subject I really like is science, I think that it is very interesting and it's cool knowing a lot about animals that we share our planet with. I like English also. I would like if we read the original text , because I think it's fun. My other favorite subject is pyrotechnics.
ReplyDeleteSky sky
My favorite thing in school is art, I love any form of it. I like to draw, I like to paint, and I like to build. Literature is not my forte, actually English itself isn't. I am more of a numbers person instead of words. Shakespeare has a creative way of writing and always holds the reader in but I like other authors writings a lot better.
ReplyDelete--Dare4Distance
I never really got into Shakespeare or read any of his stuff until English class. And the stuff I have read hasn't really been that interesting to me so it hasn't really affected me. I'd say my favorite class is probably weights. I friggin love that class. For some reason I really like getting into shape. Everyday I work I really hard and excercise(however you spell that) and after I'm done I feel super sweet. And sweaty. But yeah, its good. I also really like choir because, well, I just love singing.
ReplyDeleteNevets
My favorite subject is history. I love that class, I like hearing about history. Also I like shakespeare its not as boring as people think.
ReplyDeleteWASABI
I have fun in every subject but my favorite is science! i'm in Biology and chemistry and both were very fun to me. In general I would say my favorite subject is horse back riding. I would have to say i enjoy Shakespeares work very much. Romeo and Juliet is an amazing story and i really love the one we just got done with (Midsummer Nights Dream). He is such a creative writter, i dont know how he does it as he adds the tiny details in and so many symbols to so many things to make you think and make it more interesting.
ReplyDeletei have never been real big on school nor have i ever had a favorite subject in particular, so this blog is going to be more difficult, but ill survive. Though, if i had to pick one subject it would probably be history, certain things about our past and how we got to where we are today actually do sometimes interest me. The one thing i like to learn most about in history are the wars, we cant afford another one but the ones we have sound like they all have served a purpose some maybe greater than others.
ReplyDelete-trincheco
I do have some favorite subjects actually. I love history, because it's like a big story book and I always love to listen. I also like P.E. because you don't have to sit the whole hour looking at assignments! Shakespear has a big part in the drama world of acting. He is quite the poet and I find that attractive in a guy ;). Too bad he was into men. :( Anyways, I've never heard of these other plays from him because nobodies ever showed me them or I've just never encountered them. They are interesting and fun to act along in.
ReplyDeleteAnything pertaining to science or technology would most definitely get me attached. I love learning more about the universe around us and how we can and will progress as human beings. I do not wish for anything more than having an astronomy class in the school and I may get my wish by my Senior year. However, I love learning about mythology as well. There should be more classes that offer some sort of study into not only Greek Mythology but other kinds of mythology as well such as Old Norse and Roman. Midsummer Night's Dream is not be the first experience I've had with Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet was the first piece of his work that I have acknowledged but there have been others such as Hamlet and Macbeth. Shakespeare is a legend because he brought so many things to the world with his writing in such a way that was so new and exciting.
ReplyDeletemy favorite subject would have to science . this year i took chemistry and biology and i really enjoyed everything about biology because i love the outdoors. i didnt like chemistry as much because it was mainly equations and worksheets and we really never did anything fun. i think that shakespeare was super talented and was and amazing writer but this type of writing isnt my favorite type of writing
