Online Journal #28

And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. ~Sylvia Plath
Of everything we've done this year, the blogs have always been one of my favorite things to grade. I love to see what you think when you don't have to worry about saying it out loud in class. Oh, the freedom anonymity brings! Your online responses have allowed me to see your dreams, plans, values--your THOUGHTS--and it has been amazing. You all are a bunch of talented, creative, intelligent, and introspective people; and I hope you continue to write--for yourselves--for many years to come.
So, for one last online journal entry, I want you to tell me something you have enjoyed in this class this year. Something we read that stands out in your memory or an activity you enjoyed (something educative, not "that one time you and your friend ..."). Of course, you have the option to say "you've enjoyed nothing," but know that that is equal to the amount of points you will receive for it as well!. I have enjoyed this year--and getting to know you all--more than you know. Thank you for being the wonderful, insightful people you are. Have an awesome summer and an Incredible Junior Year!!
The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life. ~Norbet Platt

    1. And thank you for firmly establishing all the reasons why I should not have students two years in a row. Lesson learned. You can assure your brother (and anybody signing up for my classes next year) that I will be getting a lot meaner thanks to you. :)

  2. Something this year that i have enjoyed is being able to express my self and not being held back, like im alwyas allowed to put in my input and talk rqather than just be quiet and listen to a teacher the whole hour and that i have enjoyed. This year was a fun first hour which always kicked started my day off well. Great first out of my sophmore year!!

  3. this year has been full of exciting things.but my foavorite part is when you let us listen to our music when ever you sare not talking, because i can get my work done a lot faster. i could most likely say that for all of your other students as well.

  6. I enjoyed acting out our first play. It was a lot of fun. Most of the kids in our class were outgoing and made those kind of activities so much enjoyable. Im going to miss it but we still got two more years. Thanks for being so patient with our class Mrs. Snow. You were a super fun teacher and we love you!

This year in class i've really enjoyed the way you taught, i have always loved english but in my previous learnings i have never had a teacher that has taken care of each one of their students. I think that because you are easy to get along with has also helped me listen to what your saying and learn more. well that and your liking of loudness lol you definitely kept me awake everyday and i appreciate that. i loved having you as a teacher and i will miss you next year!! im sure i'll see you in the hallways!:)

  8. this year for me has been kind of hectic. i had to switch my english class at the beginning of the year. and i am happy i did because if i didnt i wouldnt have met mrs. snow. i wish she was teaching english 3 next year but she isnt. i liked having her as a teacher, she gives out bonus like its candy. if i wouldnt have switched classes then i most likely would not have passed english 2 this year.

  11. this year has been an amazing year no matter how distracting this class is. I have enjoyed a lot of things that we have done this year. the thing i enjoyed the most was the greek mythology section. i don't know why but greek mythology has always been my favorite
subject in english.i'm so excited to be a freshman in colledge next year, but i'm bummed that i'm missinjg my junior and senior years in high school but the acedemic pro's are so amazing that i can't wait. but i'm also sad leaving this place and all my freinds.

  12. I like when we would just read the plays, like we are now with shakspear's play MIDSUMMERS NIGHT'S DREAM. It's easy to do and follow along with. Though people, including myself at some points, are very slow at reading, it takes a great amount of time to do in class. Then there's the fact that no one likes to participate. I usually wait to volunteer cuz i dont like having everyone wathc me and glare me down because of liking to read these things. But by the end I came to not care, so it's ok. The way you teach us was fun and would sometimes scare me even when you yelled. Not used to those kinds of teachers, so im glad i was able to have a teacher like you this year. Summertime!!!!

  15. I've always enjoyed being in your 2nd and 3rd periods, both this year and last year. Something's I've probably enjoyed most this year was all the projects. I enjoy bringing humor into them and this class always gives me the freedom to do that. It will definitely be awkward the first day of school next year, sitting in someone else's english class.

  19. I really enjoyed the Greek mythology section. I just find it to be an interesting part. And I enjoyed having you as a teacher; you made things understandable and would always give help. I enjoyed the poetry activity when we all passed around the different poems and wrote our thoughts and poetic devices on them. And I'm kinda sad this this will be my last blog for you. I'm definitely going to miss my sophomore year.

  21. I've enjoyed having pretty much no homework. Also, you actually explain someone's question probably a story I don't quite understand very thoroughly. My favorite book we have read is going to have to be To Kill A Mockingbird. Lastly, you are one of my favorite English teachers I have ever had. I will miss you very much!

This year I enjoyed reading "How to Kill a Mockingbird". I made me relize how unfair people can be. I know that happened quite awhile ago, but people can be just as mean, crul and hurtful today as they were then.

I also loved having you as a teacher. You are one of my favorite teacher I have ever had :) You are very happy and energetic person and I left your class felling happy every day. I hope you have a wonderful summer!

  25. I like the one book we read where everyone was required to act and think like each other. It was a good book that showed that without individuality the world would not develop or be as good as it is today.

best thing about the class was the ayan rand book that we read. Dont really know how to spell that. But i liked it mainly because it was very adventeress. And how people can make a change. I thought it was a very powerful book. I got alot out of it.

  28. My favorite subject we did was... "Anthem!" That was by far on of my favorite subjects. I didn't enjoy "To Kill a Mocking Bird" all that much, it wasn't really my style of novel, I just couldn't get into it. Greek Mythology was a second favorite, it's the only part of history that I get pulled into for some strange reason. Athens was the only reason I liked "Midsummer's Night Dream." Though the class, as a whole, did not want to do anything other than tick people off. Other than certain people in my hour, I well enjoyed this year. Now if you excuse me, I have a book to get back to. *picks up "The Fallen: Leviathan"* Go away now... *continues reading*

  29. I really enjoyed Anthem. Honestly, that's what stands out the most. I greatly enjoy the future world with less technology, and no "I's". Not that part, but how two people find a way out of the system. And end up making a new one all together. I'm going to miss this class, but I'm happy I'll get to TA next year if I pass. Hope you have a GREAT summer, Mrs. Snow. :)

  30. I think my favorite thing we did this year was read and act out Antigone. I thought the story was great and it was so much fun to act like we were from there time period and play out the different characters. I also liked when we would make all the posters for the various units we were on. I had a lot of fun in this class and I really wish you would teach Juniors next year Mrs. Snow so I could have you for a third year.

  31. I'd say my favorite times were the times that we timed ourselves to see how timely we could tell the time to the time-tellers. Oh... You don't remember that? Neither do I. But the OTHER great time was when we watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Or when we watched to kill a mockingbird. I liked that movie. And book. I liked that movie and book. Ooh I also liked the time when we had to do our little play. That friggin rocked. Peace.

  32. One thing that I have enjoyed the past two years I have been in you class is having you as the teacher. You are always loud and it keeps me awake, some of the worksheets and projects I haven't really enjoyed but over all I really like your class, it wakes me up in the morning and usually puts me in a good mood

  33. I loved your class and I can't wait to A+ your class next year! Blogging was interesting, I have to say. Even though poetry's not usually my cup of tea, I feel that I understand it better. Well, to top things off for the end of the year, I hope to practice driving more so that I can get my license. I'm sick of taking the bus!!!! Hopefully soon, I'll be able to take the test sometime this summer or in August. Wish me luck!

Oh and haee a great summer!

  34. Something I have actually really enjoyed in class this year is blogging. I got to express myself and you'd get to learn new things about me every week. It may have been different because we actually had to go online to do homework every week, and nobody is use to that (yet). So I thought it was pretty intresting and fun!

  36. I think my favorite thing in this class was reading Midsummer Night's Dream. I thought that this story was worth reading, i liked the was that the faries talk. I liked the different characters and the play in the play was really funny. I had alot of fun in this class besides the point that at least most of the students really anoyed me. I also enjoyed all of the blogs. they were fun to ready and fun to respond to. You are a great teacher and it would have been cool if you were an English 111 teacher cause i would have you.

But if I had to choose my favorite thing we did this year it would be the ancient Greek plays we did I enjoyed mythology and drama that each one had. You’re a great teacher im glad I chose your class in arena scheduling last year I hope I choose one just as good.

    1. Yeah, you certainly ended up in the "special" hour. One of my major goals every year is establishing a positive classroom community. Your class didn't quite make it. Entertaining? Yeah, I can see that (more from your point of view than from mine!). ... And yeah, yeah, yeah. Flattery will get you nowhere! ;) Thanks for being one of the good ones!

  39. I'v enjoyed just about everything that weve done this year Mrs.Snow...Its hard to pick a favrot...It is probablly easier just to say the only thing I didnt like was the EOC prep...That was horable... Do me a favor, and dont make anybody suffer through that anylonger haha.

  40. Honestly the best part about this class is seeing all my friends first thing in the morning, and it can sometimes wake me up. i cant actually decide what my favorite part was though i know that i have enjoyed the blogging too its not as hard as it seems and really you just have to type what you think and whatever comes to your mind first and just let it go on the screen. I think the blogs were a great idea and i hope you continue them for students to come.

  41. My favorite part of this year was reading the Greek tragidies. My family has a home in Greece so i am always interested to read more about thier culture. I also really like reading about a place in greece i have visited like the Parthenon or Dlephi (said to be he center of the univers). I loved learning about all the Gods and what they symbolyze and i wont forget the stories we read! I want to thank you Mrs. Snow for always making this class so enjoyable and comfortable and I will miss you this summer!

  42. I couldn't be able to choose something that I liked not because I liked nothing but rather I liked so many things that it was impossible to choose a specific occasion. This English class has been an amazing and fun experience not only because of the other enthusiastic and fun people but you, Mrs. Snow. You are so much different than any other typical teacher who doesn't care about their students and only cares about getting done with teaching them. You aren't afraid to show enthusiasm and there can be nothing greater than that in this school.

I wish I could've gotten past my stubbornness and cracked down on my work for the last month or so but that had taken hold of me. I blame myself for not getting a higher grade in the class, and I'm surprised I didn't considering my EOC and Final scores. Regardless, you made English fun and I would rather have that then an amazing grade. Thank you for everything, Mrs. Snow, and have an amazing Summer.
