"No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves."
~Amelia Earhart
As we have been studying poetry, this week's blog is a little more complicated. Archibald MacLeish once said, "A poem should not mean, but be." Similarly, this week, you are not going to sit and think, but get up and DO. So, your blogging assignment is go out and perform a random act of kindness--a kind act for the benefit of someone else which brings no profit or honor to yourself. Then come back here and tell us what you did, how the recipient reacted, and how you felt after you did it. Make a difference to someone today, then see if it makes a difference in you!
Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver. ~Barbara De Angelis

  1. I offered to help carry a stack of books for a teacher. They looked like they were going to fall out of her hands, but she said she had 'em. The appreciation reciprocated felt nice. Kindness is worth it.

  4. I volenteared at a pet shelter! I did this because its somthing I do normally when i have some free time. I volentere because I enjoy helping animals and seeing the look on peoples faces when they bring a new pet home. It makes me feel acomplished, and even though no one personally is giving me anything I get the feel of acomplishment and I also get to here about how the new animal is getting along with its new family. I guess its more of a pride thing =)

I think it lifted there spirits, at least that's what I could tell from the smile on thier face. It made me feel good to go out and make someone's day, especially birthday, a little bit better.

  14. i like holding the door open for people when we go into or leave a building. it amazes me on how many people actually say thank you. which is not very many. i still feel good about my self no matter if they say thank you or not. i just wish more acts of kindness would wash off on other people.

  16. I miss you Mrs. Snow and I decided I would do a blog. Today i actually helped out a few members of my church with there house, lawn, guardian, and helped my church clean up from the vandlism. THen when i was at my childs doctor appointment there was a family who was walkin and the kids didnt have much so i gave them a ride and helped her carry her 2 infants inside. I seen there was nothing for the kids to eat so i took them all out to eat, bought them a fridge full of food (with help fom a few members of my church, my wic, and foodstamps lol)and alot of canned food, gave the oldest one my old clothes i had before i got pregnant and my brothers and sisters old clothes to them and took there mom to the thrift store and helped them out. I offered to babysit while she works and help her out. There mother was so blessed and and thanked me over and over again and is going to church with me Sunday. The familys from my church offered to pay me but im a nice kid now and wouldnt accept. It made me feel so good about myself and made me want to help more familys out. (so i joined a club to help homeless)It made me feel so wonderful and usefull.

  24. This week i tried to do something nice, but it kind of backfired i was in books a million and there was someone in front of me that forgot their wallet. they only had one book so i offered to pay for it for them, then they got really offended and said, "i don't need your charity." and some other choice words and stormed out of the store screaming. so i put the money that it would of cost in the tip jar and then the guy walks out and said, "ah you don't have to do that." well i only put in 5 dollars aand he pulled out a 20 to give back to me and then gave me my book, a coffee, and a dannish for free. I tried to correct his mistake but he wouldn't have it. so no matter how much i tried to perform a random act of kindness the universe just wouldn't let me.

At church I was feeling a little down. As I was leaving church, I was walking to the door and saw an older woman with a cane needing help from her husband to walk. I didn't really even think, I ran ahead and held the door open. She smiled widely and said "thank you, god bless" and it put me in a better mood for the rest of the night. :)

My mother just got a new hair cut. she isn't that happy about it. She was talking about how she might like it better if she had a cute hair clip. She asked if i had one, but i didn't. So the next day, I went to her favorite store and got her a clip that she would like. When I came home, I gave it to her and she was sooo hahppy! Then, I did her hair for her and she felt much better about it. :)

She was very happy with me and a got allowance for it, which normally doesnt happen :) I did get a really good feeling inside, like I made her proud. Even though it was only cleaning up my house... no biggy! I think I should do it more though. I feel more relaxed in my house whenever it't clean :)

  34. This week I made my grandparents dinner because they don't really make it for themselves often. I live with them and they need a lot of help with stuff so I help them with trash and little things like that, that is hard for them to do themselves. It makes me feel great everytime I do something for them because they have done so much for me in my life so I figured I should pay them back.

So i went to Starbucks and gave 5 dollars towards the order of the person behind me.. and it makes me wonder if they did the same. I don't think anyone was behind them though, sadly. :/

So, to be nice i offered them a ride, plus no one was able to help and give them a ride when asked. When i gave them the ride home they were really thankfull for it and made sure to say thanks multiple times over and over again. it was rather funny, but i was happy for their happiness.

  47. A few weekends ago I decided to help a friend out that I know has been stressing and working a lot lately taking care of her one year old son. So I told her that I would watch her son for a night so she could just chill at home for a little while. I told her that she didn't have to pay me and everything worked out great. Except for the fact that I was exhausted I watched the kid for 3 hours and crashed after. I have no idea how she does it, but she was greatly relieved that I took him off of her hands for a while and was so happy that she ended up paying me.

My random act of kiddness was this- My friend was telling me she was going to have a boring day in her chemistry class because there are only 11 in there and no one remembered to bring food for the party so the intire hour they would have to sit there with nothing! I didn't think that would be fun so I called my mom and had her go get some soda, cookies, and chips with dip. I brought it to her class before the hour and they were very thankful. It felt really good! even though i have to do some chores at home to make up for it! oh well

So, for him i went out and made sure he was remembered, i made sure that nobody in Merriam Woods would ever forget he was here, the impact he had was great and im glad i could be a part of the receiving end. He hasnt found out all me and my other friends have been doing to make sure he is remembered, so i do not know his reaction but i know he would appreciate it.

On top of that her boyfriend left her so you could imagine how depressed she was. I decided to take it into my own hands to clean her house! It was the least I could do considering she is a mother and it's like the hardest job in the world!

It didn't seem like that big of a deal considering the amount it was but I had given them some spare change for them to make the purchase. They thanked me like I had just given them a thousand dollars and then told me, "We need more people like you these days". After hearing that, I felt like I had done something very special.
